Global Citizens

Global Citizens is, for me, an existentialist practice. I am at once a Hong Konger, a Chinese, a former colonial subject, and a globally mobile individual. These identities are layers of labels that pull against one another. None of them can fully contain me. They create permanent fractures between politics, nationality, and culture, leaving me in a constant state of absurdity — I belong here, yet I belong nowhere.
Sartre said: “Existence precedes essence.” I was not given any fixed “Hong Konger essence” or “global citizen essence.” I can only create myself through every choice, every rejection, and every painful act of self-projection.
