War Game

Nobody Here decyphers idol culture in ‘Captain Tsubasa’ solo exhibition

The War Game series does not celebrate football — it desacralizes it. Stadium lights dissolve into the glow of funeral pyres. At its heart lies the pure, terrifying freedom of the existential subject: a being who knows the game will end, whose face will burn, and whose suit will turn to ash — yet still laces up the paper boots once more.
Yet this act is laced with hypocrisy. Fully aware of the absurdity and inevitable destruction, the player continues to perform the passionate hero for the crowd, the cameras, and himself — the tension between raw awareness and mauvaise foi.
