Nice and Dangerous 2021

Nice and Dangerous is a series of artworks in which the artist has developed her characteristic painting style that combines subtle, muted colours and reduced forms. The faces of the subjects often belie the influences that shaped them, revealing instead a deeper existential void. Marked with a sinister smile and scorched eyes—achieved by literally burning the canvas—these faces suggest a cognisant cynicism, as if the figures are painfully aware of the absurdity of existence. They stare out with the weary knowing of those who have glimpsed the meaninglessness beneath the surface, yet continue to perform their roles in the human comedy.
