Stuffed with Manufactured Dreams 2026
If Manufactured Sanity diagnoses the collective taming of society through Instagram algorithm culture and Disneyization, the Trauma series exposes the psychological debris left in its wake. This body of work focuses on the psychological implosion hidden beneath industrialized masks. Upon the highly stylized, frozen faces of public figures and cartoon personas, the pristine "social smiles" are violently disrupted and torn open by the artist's destructive use of fire—via lighters, candles, and flame guns.
The fragile paper substrates warp and curl under the intense heat, leaving irreversible charred edges and voids of absolute nothingness. These calculated burn marks interweave with the heavy, cracked layers of traditional mineral pigments (Iwa-enogu), creating a volcanic, cratered texture akin to parched earth or ulcerated wounds. Suspended between the geological permanence of rock minerals and the fleeting flash of fire, the work translates psychological trauma into material destruction. It reveals that our seemingly sanitized, sterile modern existences have already been consumed from within by the flames of accelerationism and existential burnout, leaving behind nothing but raw, highly-strung spiritual specimens.
